Hines was, to some extent, a "posturer", whereas Smith was a 
straight-ahead modernist. He sounds a little like Bud Powell on the Yes 
Yes Club recordings of 1941. Hines was heavily influenced by stride 
piano, even if he broke up the patterns to some extent,.
