Our friend from Finland, noted researcher and archivist Pekka Gronow
posted this notice on IASAList (International Assoc of Sound and
Audio-Visual Archives), and I think a lot of you would also like to
respond to this survey so I am passing this along.

The European Union has just launched a Public Consultation on the
review of the EU copyright rules. The review covers a wide variety of
topics, including many which are of great interest to archives,
libraries and researchers: mass digitization, e-lending, remote access
across borders etc. The term of copyright is also included. The EU
Commission welcomes responses from rights owners, institutions and
“end users” (private individuals, any of us). The consultation
closes on February 5, 2014.

The complete questionnaire has 36 pages and 80 questions, but there is
no need to answer all of them - the Commission also accepts submissions
which only contain replies to part of the questions. I think this is a
good opportunity to anyone involved in sound archiving and / or research
to voice their opinions on copyright problems. The questionnaire can be
found at
http://ec.europa.eu/internal_market/copyright/initiatives/index_en.htm
The questionnaire is only available in English, but respondents can use
any of the 24 official languages of EU.
