It was interesting to hear, but like anybody else doing "Pictures" after
Ravel..all the good ideas had been used. And it did kind of sound like Elgar on
uppers.

Also his transcription of Handel's "Hallelujah" Organ Concerto as recorded by Thalben-Ball and Susskind on HMV 78s is not to be missed unless you're a period performance fanatic. It is for full Symphony Orchestra, including cymbals - sounds quite Elgarian. He starts with the last movement, then the second movement, then inserts the Minuet from "Berenice" with a solo cello and finally ends with the first movement including a cadenza which may well have been improvised, (Thalben-Ball was good at that), taking up the entire last side and sounding like it had contributions from Liszt, Franck, Widor and others, (except Handel). The cadenza includes a fugue which is totaly bizarre. I convinced CBC to play the last movement on I think it was RSVP; received all sorts of positive feedback from listeners.
