Greetings from FixitLand!
Rainer Lotz asked:
>> I may have asked this before. Is there any way to find out the sources
>> of a blank label test which combines two American (?) swing bigband titles
>>
>> 20300 Dark Eyes (instrumental)
>> 20303 Ladies Man (girl vocal)
The eminent David Lennick responded:
> Do they look like ARC cuttings c. 1937?
Not ARC. Per the Abrams files, ARC matrices 20298 thru 20305 are by Bill Cox and Cliff Hobbs, 27 November 1936. Specifically, 20300 is "Blue Eyed Sailor" (OKeh 5726) and 20303 is "I Wanna Be Loved" (Vocalion 3043 et al).
For laughs, I checked the Victor list as well, for 020300 and 020303...those aren't even listed by Abrams. Can't be Columbia...not likely Decca either as they were in a 60000 series in '37 (which seems a likely timeframe for "Dark Eyes"). Any other numbers in the wax?
This will be a toughie.
Take care,
