Seth Weeks, who recorded on mandolin, was born in Chicago per a 1914 passport application. I like this sentence from a 1900 article about him: "Between school hours he would become so engrossed by his practice that his parents would often have to insist on his coming to a meal before he could tear himself away from his guitar."
Pete Hampton was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky and mostly recorded as a singer but also on harmonica.
As discussed here before, the Ciro's Club band were mostly from the U.S. and recorded a vocal blues before Mamie Smith did.
Banjoist Tony Tuck of the Versatile Four was born in Virginia in 1879. He was a member of the Clef Club in New York; other members of that organization included at least four members of the Ciro's Club band, Jim Europe and bandmembers, Ford Dabney, Tim Brymn, Joe Jordan, Arnold Ford who played banjo with Wilbur Sweatman, Sissle and Blake (who both didn't join until a few years after Jim Europe quit to form a competing club), Tom Bethel who wrote "That Moaning Trombone," and many others.
