[78-L] Last alive to record an acoustical DD?

Well, gang, we went and we chatted. It was a pleasant visit. He got a kick
out of hearing the band record and seeing a picture with him in it but he
could not remember for sure if he was at the recording session. We found a
newspaper article which mentioned that only one quarter of the band was used
to record Soldier Boys and On To Panama. Mr. C. did opine that he was the
first clarinet chair so he probably was there but just could not dredge
those memories up. Darn. The North Adams, MA Historical Society has a
beautiful museum and have mounted a well done temporary exhibit on the band
as well.

There is a postcard of the band which mentions the trip. We'll be asking if
it was taken before as a fund raiser or after.

I would ask
a) did they use the whole band, or were members selected or auditioned by
their band director to participate
b) did they use the usual studio hanging clips for their music, the lyres on
their instruments, music stands, or play from memory
c) if he remembers how the players were arranged in the studio, and who
directed where they would be placed
d) if they did any kind of tests
e) how the studio environment felt
f) did he notice how many Edison staff were around
g) did the school get any pressings, or did the band members have a chance
to buy them (there may still be one or two around if that were the case)
h) was it mentioned in his high school yearbook, or does he remember any
local paper mentioning it
i) did anyone take a photo before or after ...there's so much...

Oh heavens -- what an opportunity; how it pans out well. PC

If all goes according to plan, tomorrow I will meet a 104 year old gentleman
who was part of the Drury High School Band which cut a Diamond Disc in 1924.
Am I correct in assuming that he may be the last person alive to record an
acoustic Edison disk? If you had the chance, what would you ask him?
