Just got word that jazz flute pioneer Sam Most is in the hospital with terminal liver cancer and does not have long to live. Sam is 82 and one of the nicest people I've ever met. Did an hour interview with him last April prior to my talk on the history of jazz flute playing for ARSC. The short list of surviving flutists from that era is dwindling down to Frank Wess and not much else.
