Years ago Elektra Records released an album by Oliver Smith, an old time
singer discovered busking in New York or Boston. The album was remarkable;
seemed I'd found Riley Puckett still singing and recording. Today, while
reading, *Country Music Records:A Discography, 1921-1942*, by Tony Russell,
Bob Pinson, I find an Oliver Smith recorded three unreleased sides for
Gennett. One song, "Gambling on the Sabbath Day," is duplicated on the
Elektra album. Is this, as I suspect, the same Oliver Smith? Does anyone
know what happened to Oliver Smith after his album was released? Thank you.
Whoops, just googled "Oliver Smith & Elektra". There Smith LPs are listed
on Amazon (used) and the cheapest lists at $147.00. Guess I'm not Mr.
Smith's only fan. I used to buy copies at remainder stores and give them to
friends. My investment success remains the same, whether it's stocks,
property or Oliver Smith recordings.
I'm interested in whatever I can learn.
