Scott Joplin's opera was performed in Germany during the 1920s! (Not 
recorded, though).
I had a tape of the live recording made at the Shryrock Auditorium, 
Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, 17-18 November 1972. The 
orchestration was by William Balcom. The stage director and 
choreographer was Katherine Dunham. Sadly, the tape is now probably lost 
due to vinegar syndrom and I have been unable to find another copy.
