I meant to mention it before. In case any of you have ever wondered why
Decca sometimes used these HUGE 2x4 inch white stickers with the HUGE
black lettering, it was because they lost some kind of lawsuit
concerning only marking phony stereo discs "Stereo", and that Segovia
might be an example. It is part of the reason why in later years most
record companies stopped marking whether their records were mono,
stereo, electronic stereo, electrical, acoustical, worth the money, a
piece of crap, etc. BUT they did have to put that parental advisory
sticker on them. Any of you ever give or receive any parental advising
concerning the language of the lyrics? Sure, plenty of saying that the
stuff is crap using language worse than on the record . . . As Jimmy
Durante used to say "Everybody's a critic, hot cha cha."

Decca (wouldn't you know it!) put out an Andres Segovia album, THREE
CENTURIES
OF THE GUITAR, DL 710034, in 1961. STEREO on the front. STEREO on the
label.
THIS IS A HI-FI STEREOPHONIC RECORD! on the back, and in smaller
type..ENHANCED
FOR STEREO. They also gave it a new number, implying that in mono it was
DL
10034, when in fact it had been issued in mono 3 years earlier as DL
9995. The
surprising thing is that it's not bad..the mono lp is terrible, dull,
cavernous, while the "enhanced" has far more presence.

What's really odd is that the mono lp is part of the Golden Jubilee box
set and
that the other two discs in that set, DL 9996 and 9997, came out in real
stereo
later.
