[78-L] Enhanced for Stereo, was Re: Fake stereo

Decca (wouldn't you know it!) put out an Andres Segovia album, THREE CENTURIES 
OF THE GUITAR, DL 710034, in 1961. STEREO on the front. STEREO on the label. 
THIS IS A HI-FI STEREOPHONIC RECORD! on the back, and in smaller type..ENHANCED 
FOR STEREO. They also gave it a new number, implying that in mono it was DL 
10034, when in fact it had been issued in mono 3 years earlier as DL 9995. The 
surprising thing is that it's not bad..the mono lp is terrible, dull, 
cavernous, while the "enhanced" has far more presence.

What's really odd is that the mono lp is part of the Golden Jubilee box set and 
that the other two discs in that set, DL 9996 and 9997, came out in real stereo 
later.
