Was this censorship also not the norm in the USA at the same time?

I know I have heard tales of such, but not sure if this was local station dictum or network policy. Anybody know fershure?

Beer Barrel Polka is on Lennick's Long Lager List (not too far down) but I'm
surprised at the Student Blintz omission as well. Maybe it's the Lanza
revulsion factor. By the way, the Miss Grundys running the CBC in the 30s and
40s made sure that if you did perform the polka or play a recording of it, you
didn't make reference to the devil's brew. I have an aircheck of The Happy Gang
where they call it "The Barrel Polka".

The earliest one I have that has
"beer" in the title is "Good Old Beer" by Bob Miller (aka
"Slick Palmer") on the super-scarce black-on-blue Bluebird
label (1826), recorded 12/29/32.

If we're limiting the search to US titles, we must
remember that prohibition fever swept the land during
the first couple decades of the 20th century, and
"glamorizing" Demon Alcohol was considered to be in
bad taste, even before it was outlawed. But I'd bet
that if you look for "Bier" rather than "Beer"
you'll find a lot of examples in Germanic north
central Europe, where gramophones frequently provided
music in Gasthofen (pubs).

Not to forget about drinking songs in opera, including "Vin ou Biere"
from
 Gounod's Faust.

If we're not restricting ourselves to beer, here's a list compiled my
myself
and some other 78-cellars er ellers some years back when there was the
 possibility of a Booze compilation:
