Based on newspaper research I have done about GG, some department stores
may have scooped them up. About a year ago, I was doing similar
research and noted a sudden number of ads touting sales (with really
really low prices) at discount department stores in the early 1930s. I
had no explanation at the time, and I recall finding it odd (before I
found the bankruptcy info three days ago) that suddenly stores in cities
across the country (W.T. Grant comes to mind) were advertising bargain
prices on GG records. I assume most folks in Butte, Montana or Boise
Idaho had no idea Grey Gull had gone out of business. I'll go re-check
my files and see where some of the records ended up.
