a collector friend asked me this question ( listed below) about copyrights of Edison Blue Amberol & Gold Moulded cylinders - or more specifically the music contained on them. 


does anyone have knowledge regarding this copyright situation?

COPYRIGHT QUESTION: "I have a film producer who would like to use a cylinder for an opening of a documentary, but we need to know if those recordings (1913 or before) would still be under copyright, and if so - what is the procedure to secure copyright; I know sheet music from that time period is generally fine, but wasn't sure about sound recordings."
