many years ago, (OK, decades ago - but who's counting) a long-time record collector who has since passed mentioned about a record to me that i am curious about. it is an early recording of a minstrel show, but he did not recall the record label. he did say it was a disc, not a cylinder. i am wondering if anyone may be able to identify the label info for this particular recording if i describe it.

charles p lowe, a xylophonist, performs on this session along with singers. at one point in the session, the singers introduce charles p lowe before he plays the xylophone. in introducing lowe, the singer(s) says the following:

"charles lowe will play the xylophone,
it is made of rosewood.
it is called rosewood because,
someone planted seeds in a bucket -
watered them, and
up rose wood."

does anyone have any idea what record this may be, based on those lyrics and the fact that charles p lowe performs xylophone on it? lowe performed on records from about 1890 to 1905 for many labels, including american, berliner, columbia, edison, victor, and zonophone. presumably, this would be a single-sided record, issued between 1899 and 1905.

best, david harvey
