[78-L] whats the fate of blank cds..Marconi recording blanks..

Graham Newton (chime in any time, GN!) actually cut one ARSC session on an old 
disc, and this was either in Syracuse or Cleveland. And yep, it was noisy.

The coating on home discs was usually crap, but Presto's fiber base blanks used 
good stuff. As long as the lacquer didn't began to crack, they can sound very 
nice even 70 years after they were made. Aluminum was unavailable for most of 
the war years so a lot of CBC recordings were cut on the fiber base discs if 
they had to be shipped anywhere, since glass stood a good chance of not making 
it in one piece. A Gracie Fields program recorded in Vancouver that was to be 
broadcast by short wave from Ottawa was done on these.

Yep they were noisy alright. From time to time blanks do show up on Ebay. I've even seen the fiber base ones plus glass blanks too.
