Forgive the old German professor, but it is Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Let
us do him the honor of spelling his name properly.

BTW - what were D F-D's 78rpm recordings? Were the EMI db series recordings
the earliest? Any other labels?
In the past few years many CD's of early recordings (for example a 1948
Wintereise broadcast) have been issued.
The first I was aware of his recordings were the Electrola LP's (green
edges on jackets) which must have been circa 1954.
  Is there an online discography?
THANKS!
Best wishes, Thomas.

Leonard Bernstein recorded a number of his works as pianist, and conductor,
in the mid-
40s and early 50s,

Previn was strictly a jazz artist on 78s, as well as conducting MGM
soundtrack
material.

I can't even think of anyone who did that who's still alive). A very
knowledgeable acquaintance has said the Kurt Masur made 78s
but I can find no evidence of that.
