All the later Paramounts were dubs as far as I know and the shellac ranges
from barely acceptable to downright lousy.

Subject: [78-L] Steiner Paramounts

Hello all,

Long time watcher, first time in a long time poster & all that.

Just a quick one: do any of you know what the shellac quality is like on the
Steiner issued Paramount discs (14000 series)? The only NYRL disc I've got
is a Broadway from the late 20s and it's as good/bad as you'd expect it to
be, but I've never come across a disc from the second incarnation of
Paramount.

Also, a supplementary question: did the discs in the 14000 series that
happened to be pressed from original masters suffer from any noise inherent
in the manufacturing process (poor quality recording wax or electroplating,
etc.)? I wouldn't be expecting a high fidelity disc, I'm just curious as to
what I'd find in such a disc.

Cheers,
Evan.
