Obviously meant for the bin of history, but still a revolution in that

acoustic studio. This electrical process separated the recording process 
from the sound studio, and allowed more natural configurations and 
dynamic ranges. As with any technology, it was an extension of the 
original process, not a total departure. Its still relied upon horns and 
mechanical linkages.

It was the microphone as we know it that was the limiting factor. Once 
settled on, things advanced nicely.
