What I use:

I load the audio into the computer using CoolEdit Pro (older version... also use CEPro for any pitch adjustment required), then use Equaliser and Click Repair (Brian Davies' BRILLIANT software for getting the RIAA curve out and proper EQ curves restored as well as pop/click removal), then back to CEPro for a final noise reduction pass and trimming and conversion to high bitrate mp3 (128/44 or 160/44).

hi im trying to edit my 78 collection and i was wondering if there are anysoftware that is made for it.ive tried nero ,soundsoap,and roxio..i
was considering diamond cut but its way to complicated for this boys

Note that it's not necessary to change the subject line if you ARE responding 
to an existing thread, unless you're moving the topic elsewhere. Things get 
confused and some people read the messages in digests (and, horrors, reply by 
quoting the entire digest, although that hasn't happened here for a while). 
I've also deleted the earlier part of the thread in the quotation below.
