Had a great interview last night with Quincy Jones at his L.A. home. Q has agreed to write the foreword for my forthcoming biography of Cannonball Adderley. Fascinating interview, although it was all I could do to keep him on the Cannonball Freeway - he kept taking exits to talk about Clifford Brown, Clark Terry, Charlie Parker, and others he's worked with over the years. How does one restrict such a gigantic figure to one subject? Tough but rewarding. 
 
One excerpt I will be presenting at the ARSC conference - his story of the first song he ever published, which was recorded when he was with the Lionel Hampton orchestra in 1951 and features the first bebop flute solo, by Jerome Richardson.
