[78-L] Jack Jenney on Columbia 78

What was the purpose of the G series?  I have come across 2.  Richard Tucker on 4-G and just found Arthur Godfrey on 100-G, which appears to be part of a set.

The funny thing is that I see just about all of these G items more frequently 
on vinyl DJ copies.
