That's precisely what they are, except that they were for the stars to take
home and practice with, not for on-set use. The playback discs used on set were
recorded at 80RPM and the rehearsal discs at 78. I think the 80RPM speed might
have been so that if they got into the wrong hands, they wouldn't sound right
(like we'd ever notice, given that most Deccas are also off speed), as well as
so that the speed could easily be checked before shooting by the old trick of
counting 20 revs in 15 seconds. Let us know when the DNA results are in from
Marilyn's disc.
