It seems to me that a retroactive copyright extension constitutes an ex post facto law, which I believe is forbidden by that tiresome document the
Constitution.  If you do something on, say, July 30, which is declared to be a crime by a lwa that goes into effect on August 1, YOU CAN NOT BE CHARGED
UNDER THE NEW LAW.  Thus, if something is copyrighted when the term ix x years, that should be the end of the copyright!  Any attempt to make a change to a term of x+y is bloody well unconstitutional.

Does anybody know if this has been argued in the myriad court and parliamentary cases?
