Actually, I deliberately went w/o a car, among other things, for several decades precisely so I'd have more money to buy books & records. Kind of geographically limited where I could buy, but as I always ran out of money before I ran out of things I wanted to and COULD buy, it wasn't much of a 'problem.'

I parked my car in my garage -- once! I arrived at my new house for the
first time on the morning of the start of the 1978 blizzard. I thought
it was great -- for the first time I wouldn't have to clean the snow off
the car. However I forgot I had a 60 foot driveway which would have to
be shoveled, and since it was uphill to get out, it would have to be
shoveled very well. And then I discovered that the J-shaped driveway
required that part of the LAWN would have to be shoveled to allow the
car's overhang to clear.
