Has there ever been an attempt to identify who does the little exclamations that
accompany some of Jos. Smith's Victor records? In particular, ones I can think of
off-hand are

Me-ow (B-22092-1, issued on Vic 18511, 6 Sep. 1918)
--at least one voice, maybe two, sings "me-ow!" several times during the side

Rainy Day Blues (B-22750-3, issued on Vic 18561, 23 Apr. 1919)
--one voice intones "rainy blues, rainy blues..." at appropriate points in the song

Yellow Dog Blues (B-23282-1, issued on Vic 18618, 1 Oct. 1919)
--laughing is heard ("yah-hah-hah-hah-hah!", answered by Harry Raderman's trombone)

Taxi (B-23306-3, issued on Vic 18640, 22 Oct. 1919)
--one voice shouts "Taxi! Taxi!"

The Red Hot Jazz page for JSC's orchestra (see below) credits Smith himself with
"laughing", so he may be the voice on "Yellow Dog Blues". The voice on "Taxi" has a
similar timbre to the laughter, so Smith may have done the honours there as well. The
EDVR gives no vocal credits for the above sides.
