"Orange" boxes with "slip-over" lids work excellently. MOST have enough
space above the records to allow the upper box(es) to sag slightly. For
long term storage a piece of 3/4 plywood, cut to size gives enormous
support. A lot of grocery stores give away their boxes but a produce
store is even better (there's one 6 blocks away - lucky me!). Craig's
List will help you find free plywood - a near-by sign maker gives away
4x4, 4x5 and 4x6 ones regularly.
I've stacked 'em 5 high for decades with no problems. As I get older
they seem to get heavier (?) but using a "spacer" (insulation, a smaller
box, etc) in the middle makes them more manageable.
