Well -- my six milk crates of 78s (plus 6 boxes of lps and 5 banana boxes
of 45s) made it from east coast USA to west coast Canada via Allied Van
Lines.

Here's my 78 packing solution

Sterlite milk crates from Walmart -- 11 inches wide x 12 inches long x 10
inches deep
Cut 1/2 thick pink foam insulation into rectangles to make walls inside the
crates
Place 3/4 to 1 inch of junk records in the crate -- fill will good stuff
almost all the way - leaving another 3/4 to 1 inch for junk 78s at the end
-- the junk acts like book ends. Make sure the records are tight with no
jiggle
Use 1 inch thick foam mattress cushion to wrap to crate - cut it to shape
and wrap it like a package using tape to secure it
Place a piece of the 1/2 inch pink foam insulation in the bottom of a
medium size moving box -- place a small amount of ball3d up filling paper
on top of the insulation.
Set the wrapped crate into the box
Stuff paper or whatever you want as filler around the crate to hold it in
place -- put some on top also
Place a piece of the 1/2 inch pink foam insulation in top of the assembly
and seal the box

Every record arrive safe and sound -- even the junk didn't break!
