     As it has been since the 50’s most young people base their preference in music based on pear pressure, and emotion as opposed to the quality of the music. These young people are the ones that buy the majority of the music. It does not matter if it has the fidelity of the early Edison cylinder player or not. Records and Real to Real were made to be enjoyed in the home as opposed to cassettes and CDs are made for cars and ghetto blasters.
     As I have grown older I find there is a great amount of good music out there that was made and put on records before I was born, both American and foreign. I can listen to what I like without impressing friends. One good thing about MP3 players and I pods is you can listen in public without disturbing others. I feel just as Rap is disturbing to some people, what I listen to is also.  No two adults like the same music.
      I have spent a lot of money on CDs, and equipment to convert old records to Wave files, then to CDs. I convert a lot of music to MP3 files for my MP3 player.
I have not downloaded an MP3 file yet, nor I plan to. I am sure there will be good music released on web based MP3 files, but not for me. I want the hard copy in my hand if someone wants my money.
