What a kind thing to say about a dead person.

Other people say more interesting things

What this says in effect is that her reputation as being brassy may have
affected her reputation as a ballad singer. And she was a good at it as
any of them. She might have been swimming against the current of the day
of waiflike, whimpering, frail sounding coquettes who depended heavily
on their overexhibited vulnerability (not that I did not enjoy them
immensely - they had an attraction that went far beyond their little
voices).
What ever she was, she nearly made microphones obsolete. She defined
"stage voice" for many years. I doubt you will EVER hear this type of
singing made popular again. She represented another time. Voices like
this and Streisand's are a dying breed. With new technology, stage
singing (which was also mechanical recording singing) are becoming
unnecessary and increasingly scarce in modern theater. My wife works in
a dinner theater here and several actors have told me this.

In her youth, ah, she was a beauty!

She had more talent in one finger than all of us could muster.
