Going through my old files, I found a notice in the Boston Globe (3
September 1931) that "Grey Gull Inc, South Boston, manufacturer of
phonograph records, have [sic] filed a petition in bankruptcy.
Liabilities $97,514; assets $9,412." Okay fine, given that Theodore
Lyman Shaw was famously cheap, what might he have owed that much money for?
