You know, I felt the same way. And then I heard the recordings on the first
album of reissues of her early Columbia recordings on Bear Family, and I
changed my opinion.

Unfortunately, she married a real loser who 'managed' her by fixing an image
on her, and Mitch Miller also didn't help with the garbage that she had to
record. I believe that if she had the opportunity to make some albums like
Rosemary Clooney did in her later career, a lot of people would hear how
good she can really sing. Hey, one of her favorite artists is Ray Charles
(the blind one), so that tells me a lot.

And Julian, although I love Ella, I've spoken to a number of musicians over
the years who also don't care for her, Dick Sudhalter being one.
