These 'nuclear bids' are often placed by strange collectors who do not want that 
their collection suffers a loss in value. 
They register one or two new IDs on eBay and place snipe bids at the last second 
to disrupt the auctions. 
In fact, for about 2 years, you can't auction Calypso/Mento 78s normally on eBay, 
because a crazy guy practices this auction bombing systematically. Then, because 
of false contact information and non-payment he gets NARU'd ('not a registered user'). 

In the case of UK Elvis 78s, I really doubt that you can falsify a shellac 78 nowadays, 
especially as you can get even the rarer UK items (like 'Christmas') for $70 maximum.
