I found checking retail prices of 78 sellers on the web useful when evaluating similar such issues in my collection.

Subject: [78-L] Need help affixing values to some R&B 78s

Hi Folks,

I appreciate the help I received when I was trying to digitize some RCA Home
Recording Records a few of weeks back. The solution of using the ball from a
ball-point pen glued to an old cantilever worked pretty well. I also tried a
little triangular piece cut from a guitar pick. Fender Medium, as I recall.
Got similar results, but went with the ball-point generated transfers. It
really was a great favor to be told how to get the audio out of these old
treasures.

Now, if anyone is feeling similarly helpful, I'm interested in getting
opinions on the value of some R&B-type 78s owned by the same clients. I was
amazed when I saw these, because they look unplayed, damn-near mint. Some
are in original sleeves. Labels include Peacock, Okeh, Chess, Checker,
Imperial, Specialty. Artists include Big Mama Thornton, Screamin' Jay
Hawkins, Bo Didley, Howlin Wolf, Fats Domino, Clifton Chenier.

If anyone can advise what price guide I should buy, or would like to give me
their opinion on specific records, please send me an email.

Thanks again for your timely help of a few weeks ago.
Rod
