Geoffrey Wheeler's book on Reissue labels lists Item as being from New York, NY.  Only 201 through 204 are listed.

201 is Lionel Hampton Sweethears on Parade / Shufflin' at the Hollywood (Vi 26254)
202 is Duke Ellington  All Too Soon / Just a Settin' and a Rockin' (Vi 27247 / 27587)
203 is Johnny Hodges Things Ain't What They Used To Be / Squatty Roo(BB 11447)
204 is Jimmie Lunceford Cheatin' On Me / T'aint What You Do (Voc 4582)

No idea on the reason for the asterisk.  Just someone trying to artsy I presume.

Regards,
Glenn

Ebay # 200559086489 shows Item 204 by Lunceford; pres. the common Voc 1939 recordings.

202 & 203 are by Ellington (listed by Valburn).

Does anyone have more info about the label, like country, and other issues (201; higher than 204).
About the name: does the asterisk in the letter "i" mean that the label was intended as "Star Item"?
