My issue with this is one of listing to see what price you can get. 
That's unfair to buyers, I would tend to not feel warm and fuzzy 
about the seller.

Equally as a seller, I'd not feel good about someone who emailed 
outside of eBay and said "I'll pay you the top bid by money order, 
plus your eBay fees and other fees if you tell the winner that the 
record was broken and the auction is null"

Its game playing and not right
