[78-L] A question of release dates

Vic Album P-182 (= 20-2324/27) contains Summer 1946 recordings (Transblucency
recd 9 Jul 46, some others 3 Sep), but was issued much later.
Vic 20-2314 is Basie's Jungle King, recd 22 May 1947 and thus released after June 1947.
This makes ca. Aug 1947 the earliest possible release date for the Duke album.
Is it possible that the Victor recordings were not issued at first due to a Musicraft contract?

The orig. message said:
"My research so far has the first one as being released in late August
or early September 1947"
and though this was wrong for the 2EP set mentioned, it might be the release date of the
78rpm album.
I assume that the 78 album is mentioned in the online Billboard, and maybe someone can
consult Billboard.

>>> I'm new to this list and hoping to find someone who knows something
about a listing of 78 release dates. I have been able to find
recording dates for these sessions, but release dates seem to be much
more elusive. Thanks in advance for any help!

1: Victor EPB 3067
Duke Ellington plays the blues

2. Victor 20-2326 (78A)
Beale Street blues ; Transblucency (a blue fog that you can almost see
through)
Work(s) Beale Street blues / W.C. Handy. Transblucency (a blue fog
that you can almost see through) /
Physical Item Victor 20-2326 (78A). 1 sound disc : 78 rpm, mono ; 10-
inch, standard (shellac) : Victor (20-2326)

My research so far has the first one as being released in late August
or early September 1947 and the second as being released sometime
after August 1946.

Any help in narrowing this down or resources to find the information
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

Duke Ellington Plays the Blues was originally a 78 album released in 1947
(including 20-2326), and transferred to LP and 45 EP probably in 1952.
Information from the American Record Label Directory (supposed to be coming
back into print or online, I think). Matrix numbers are often a guide to
determining when an album was mastered, with release usually within a few
months to a year, but that takes a while to learn how to decipher.

"Both Sides Now" is a great source for info on many record labels
http://www.bsnpubs.com/index.html
but RCA Victor isn't there, as far as I can see. A work in progress.

A lot of us rely on catalogues, supplements, articles in Billboard, dates when
hit records charted (which is something Whitburn IS good for), dating
guides..all in combination. Is there an actual database for the release date of
Every Freakin' Record Ever Made?

RCA EPB-3067 is a gatefold 45rpm 2 EP set, and thus post-1948.
It was also issued as Victor 78rpm album P-182 and as a 10" LP, and
poss. the 1947 date refers to the 78 album.
