[78-L] Label Screw-ups [was: For Hawaiian and Rollini discographers]

I had two similar label screw-ups with Columbia from that era, and I an
wondering if it happened more with them than, say, Victor. Mort Savada
thought he had found for me a copy of Col 198-D, Darktown Broadcasting
Parts 1 & 2 by Jay C. Flippen. That is, until he flipped (pardon the
pun) the record over and discovered the label of a nearby number on the
other side. We both hoped that the other label was mistaken because it
was the recording that was important, but alas, the matrix numbers
showed it was the Flippen label that was wrong. (He wouldn't sell me
the record even though I wanted it for the incorrect label, and it took
a long time before I found a real copy of it.) I also have a copy of
!-S, the New Process Sample Record which had a paste-over label which
fortunately was easily removed. Under it was a label for 1-D (a record
I actually got a few weeks ago.) At least the factory discovered their
mistake before it got out.
