[78-L] the 'deadest' consumer audio formats?

Does anybody remember the RCA super cassette machines from the early
sixties?  It was a failed format, but for years I had a player that worked
fairly well.  The cassettes were much like what would become the standard 
Philips" cassette, only about ten times larger.

Actually the mono cartridges are two track, one for audio, the other for
control (cue tones).  Stereo carts are three track, two for audio, one for
control.  The design came from the old Fidelipac/Mad Man Muntz 4 track
cartridges in the 1960s.
