At the last Vintage Voltage show in Denver, I actually spent about $80 on 78s... a stack of acoustic stuff (that had some very interesting sides in it, and from another dealer I bought for something like $50, 5 Bill Broonzy OKehs and a RCA Victor Sonny Boy WIlliamson, all in REALLY nice shape.  The rest of the moneys went towards a replacement dome tweeter for my Large Advents, as one of them is getting shrill.

I had intended on getting one of those wonderful German table radios (a Saba or one of the 2-name jobs which I have forgotten the name of) from the 1950s, but that will have to wait until the 78/toy fund is a bit more replenished.

And I know that if I had Steve's budget for buying records, I'd
certainly be satisfied with buying one $100 record a month rather than
30-40 dust catchers of marginal interest or condition. Don't knock 78
collecting. Three bucks is still dirt cheap for a 78, and for the
nominal price of $50, you can still get a pretty darned good collector's
item.

I also object to your repeated assertions that 78 collectors are all
retirees. What survey is that based on?
Maybe Kurt could conduct a profile of his clients and tell us what age
group bids on his auctions. I bet you'd be surprised.

At the recent Croydon record fair I was able to pick up 78s for GBP1
($1.60) - GBP2 ($3.20) each, mainly American Dance Band stuff. There
were probably thousands there that either I didn't want or already had.
