I imagine you could use a straight razor blade to shave off the excess.  If
I can find a suitable subject, maybe I'll do the experiment.

Duco cement bonds great, but it's difficult not to get any of it to seep
through to the surface once the two pieces are forced together. Any advice
on how to do this?
