[78-L] Ragging (later, Jazzing) the Classics

 While Julius Lenzberg's 1913 "Hungarian Rag" uses pieces of Liszt's H.R.#2,  S.R.Henry's "Under the Rambling Roses" is 
Schubert's Moment Musical No.3 in its entirety, syncopated and with some 'raggy' effects thrown in (and another melody

playing my copy on a Columbia Q!)

 Are there earlier examples of this genre (I guess it's a 'genre') ?
