Seeing as 'late' 78s is my area of specialisation, I can pretty much
say that I have found that 78s produced past 1957 or so are the most
sonically amazing records I have ever heard. Even 78s from the 1960s
from what one might call 'third world countries', are superior to the
45s produced in the rest of the world. Two perfect examples are the
Philippines 78 I have of Summer Holiday by Cliff Richard, that blows
the 45 away with incredible bass, and the South African 78 I have of
Clap Your Hands by the Beau Marks outshines my Canadian 45 with the
clarity of the piano.
The vinyl 78s produced by companies like Pye in the UK in the late
50s are also excellent in sound quality
