Teacher says: Show your work!  So:

 You have:  78.26
 You want:  74.00
 Subtract:   4.26

So, you want to take away 4.26   ... divide that by what you have :  78.26
Result:  .05443 , or 5.443%
Now use your calculator :  78.26 - 5.443% = 74.0003082

 If you're my age or older, you can check your work on paper (I didn't get a calculator until after High school, and it was 
"cheating" anyway)
