In the twenties, there were a number of college-based bands, some of
whose players went on to musical fame...and whose records were VERY
listenable! Record companies had both "regular" bands (i.e. the ubiquitous
Sam Lanin) and their house bands to record potential "hit tunes" as Tin Pan
Alley churned them out...the companies had neither need nor interest in
any more "unknown" outfits. As well, sometimes "name" bands would
cut these records, for sale in specific markets...! There are two known
Lombardo "Personal Records"...so far I only own one thereof...!
