It sounds tall-tale-ish, something you pull out of your head for fun.

Remember, Freberg's from a generation where you'd say something like
that to a local reporter and it would create a chuckle in the local
newspaper. Stuff like this didn't propagate with the speed and breadth
that it does today...which is why Dizzy Dean, for example, used to give
different hometowns and birthdates to different reporters, explaining
that this way he gave them all a scoop.
