WSM's Eddie Stubbs has just given me the sad news that Doc Williams has died at age 96. Doc and his band, the Border Riders, joined Wheeling WV's WWVA Jamboree in 1937! Doc also owned Wheeling Records, starting out with 78s in the mid 40s. "The Parlor Is A Pleasant Place To Sit In Sunday Night," recorded by Doc with his late wife Chickie as vocalist, has opened and closed my "Bluegrass Ramble" radio show since 1973.
