I have two Jackson records in the computer here at work -- one of
them the aforementioned "How Can I Hold You Close Enough," and the
other "I've Found The Right Girl," an MP3 found somewhere on the 'Net
some years ago. The studio sound differs notably between the two.
"Close Enough" sounds much like any other HMV studio recording
(Noble, Hylton et al) while "Girl," to my ears anyway, has a more
hollow sound as if recorded in -- er, uh, -- a hotel? Rather like the
difference between a New York Victor and a Camden Church Studio
Victor of 1934. Or maybe this recording was reverbed. I sure wish
Rust had been more specific...
Take care,
Joe
