Interesting story here...!

When Herbert Berliner (Emile's son) set up the Compo Company, he
illicitly issued four records (8 sides) credited to "Famous Tenor." The
original issues were "bootlegged" from Victor's McCormack sides.
Needless to say, Victor took legal action...and the "stolen" sides
were replaced by Billy Jones doing his best to imitate McCormack.

I was tasked with writing an "appendix" to a McC discography
detailing this bit of history spme years back...!
