I've just run across an old album of Palestinian Folk Songs sung by the United Synagogue Chorus, directed by Martin Berkowitz. The set is obviously pretty old, but I'm clueless about its origin. The records nor the album contain any hint on who made it. The album is titled Song and Soul. The records have no manufacturers label, only says United Synagogue Chorus with each record labeled 102-2a, etc. It's a great collection of ethnic music, in great condition. There are several more records like this, all acquired from an aunt who was not jewish, but a great lover of ethnic as well as classical music. I would assume it was made privately for distribution (sale?) to members of the United Synagogue and would guess it is or was located in NYC. There is a foreword by Leonard Bernstein, but no other clue I can find to its origin. Anyone have an idea?
